Hi, I’m Dave. I’m passionate about helping people find hope, healing, and balance in their lives. I hold a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree and am currently an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) in the state of Alabama, under the supervision of Tonya Hillman, MS, LPC-S. I’ve worked in the mental health field for over ten years in a variety of roles, which has given me a well-rounded perspective on the unique challenges individuals, couples, and families face.
My path to becoming a therapist began while working with adolescents in a long-term inpatient facility. During that time, I witnessed firsthand how deeply family dynamics, mental health challenges, and unresolved conflicts can shape a young person’s life. I also saw the incredible power of therapy, the way a safe and supportive space can lead to real growth and healing. Those early experiences inspired me to take the steps toward becoming a therapist myself, so I could help others navigate life’s challenges and create meaningful change.
My approach to therapy centers on building a strong, genuine connection with my clients. I believe healing begins with trust, compassion, and understanding, which is why I strive to create a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel truly heard and accepted. I see therapy as a collaborative process—we work together to explore your struggles, identify your strengths, and develop practical tools to help you move forward.
I have experience working with individuals of all ages facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including ADHD, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, and Anxiety. I also support clients navigating grief, trauma, parenting stress, and major life transitions. Additionally, I provide couples and marriage counseling, helping partners improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen emotional connections.
I understand that parenting today can feel overwhelming, especially when balancing co-parenting, blended family dynamics, and the constantly changing needs of children. I work closely with parents and families to help them navigate these challenges, fostering healthier relationships and stronger bonds.
At the core of my philosophy is the belief that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering compassion, insight, and evidence-based tools to support your unique journey. Healing looks different for everyone, and therapy is about discovering what “living your best life” means for you—whether as an individual, a couple, or a family. I'm looking forward to taking these Next Steps with you.
